We have covered the basics on having good manners. Now to refine what we’ve learned we will look closer at what it means to have good manners. Having good manners is a way to show people that you respect them. It is a way to show people that they have value. As a man, I know that having good manners is crucial to getting them back in return.
Treat Others the Way You Want Them to Treat You
We’ve all heard the “golden rule” to Treat others the way you want them to treat you. It seems simple enough but think about it for a minute or two. This person that you’ve never met has the same value that you have. They want to be treated with respect just as much as you do. Even if this person doesn’t deserve respect, you respect them and treat them with good manners because of who you are. It says leaps and bounds about your character and who you are as a person when you treat others with good manners.
Don’t Act Out In Anger
When you feel angry do not react in that moment. Take some time to think about it before you act. Don’t say anything you may regret. Once you have said it you can’t take it back. If you need to take a moment to calm down, go out for a walk. Get away from the situation that is making you mad. Something I have learned a long time ago was no one can make you angry. Take a moment to think about that. No one can make you angry, you choose to get angry. No one can control how you act or feel, you are the one in control.
An Important Part of Having Good Manners is Learning to Control Yourself
Controlling yourself means you don’t let others dictate your responses or your mood. You are centered and you don’t act out foolishly in response to someone else’s immaturity and stupidity. You don’t yell at bad drivers in a fit of road rage because they cut you off on the highway. It is maturity and integrity that motivate you. You set goals for yourself and you work toward achieving those goals.
You Know What You Want and How to Get It
Another part of having good manners and demanding respect wherever you go is knowing what you want and how to get it. You are motivated and characterized as a hard worker.
You Don’t Give Up
The key to learning how to have good manners all the time is to not give up. It takes the time to build new good habits but is possible. Work at displaying your good habits all the time. You will be surprised at the immense difference in how people respond to you and treat you when you are characterized by good manners, integrity, motivated and a hard worker.
